Trio's classical sound a life-changing experience

Despite all the impressive accolades, Strezeva knew she didn't want to hop onto the lonely touring circuit without the company of some friends.

"I personally enjoy working and collaborating with people much more," Strezeva said. "Plus, it's a lot more fun traveling with friends than being with myself."

Now, four years later, the Manhattan Piano Trio is one of the busiest new ensembles in all of America. Bahl has the group playing in smaller cities all over the country, to be followed by a two-week tour of South Africa this spring.

Tonight's Ravinia program includes delightful oddities such as Shostakovich's Jazz Suite No. 1 (in its Ravinia debut) and Anton Arensky's Trio No. 1 in D Minor, Op. 32, an admitted favorite of Bahl's.

Bryant Manning is a locally based free-lance writer.

Singer, Broadway Actress, Grammy Award Winner Mya To Be National ...

PORT WASHINGTON, N.Y., Feb. 25 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- North Shore Animal League America, the world's largest no-kill animal shelter, and Mya, the Grammy Award-winning singer, dancer and actress, soon to be starring in the Broadway musical "Chicago," announce Tour For Life 2008.

Tour For Life, which will stop in more than 20 U.S. cities to help save pets' lives across America, is the League's month-long national cooperative initiative with animal shelters promoting the importance and advantages of adopting shelter animals as a life-saving measure. Since its inception in 2001, Tour For Life, in partnership with Purina, has placed thousands of homeless animals with loving families.

"This lifesaving tour is truly close to my heart, as both a pet owner and animal lover," said Mya, who serves as Tour For Life's national spokesperson.

K.J. gets overlooked, but shouldn't | Braves

I noticed that K.J was money against the mets early in the season, If he puts up similiar numbers again this year I will definitely have to define him as one of the most underrated offensive second basemen in the league…

I've been up on the phillies forum during the last 2 weeks, and they are gunning for Santana and the mets, with the feeling of the braves as an afterthought, It remind's of 2001 wher we were the serious underdogs…Hopefully we'll "creep on ah comeup"

Go Braves…!

Kowalski on WDFN: Lions shouldn't have a problem trading Rogers

Despite head coach Rod Marinelli stating the Lions will not cut Shaun Rogers, it is expected that the team will continue to aggressively shop the defensive tackle according to MLive.com Lions Insider Tom Kowalski. Kowalski believes the Lions will be able to find a trading partner before everything is said and done.

Kowalski goes on to say, "Bill Parcells absolutely loves Shaun Rogers. The last few years we've talked to him on the conference calls before the Lions played the Cowboys, he has just gushed about the guy. Now obviously there's some strikes against Rogers. He's been overweight, he's had knee problems and the strike for the drug thing, but all it takes is one guy to say 'I can turn this guy around. What a force he's going to be. He's the missing piece to our defense.' That's what you really need."

Kowalski further explains the Lions are not looking for draft picks in return for Rogers.

At the Throttle Shoot-outs, Santa and Preservation

I recently read a posting on an internet site dedicated to railroad preservation which offered an opinion that museums should not have shoot-outs because they are "hokey" and do a disservice to the museum. As the Executive Director of the most complete steam era railroad complex in the country, I've been struggling with just such issues. Yes, we do feature shoot-outs and we also offer the Polar Express®, both of which could be considered pretty "hokey." This begs the question: How does the featuring of these events mesh with our mission? .
