| Wild Card/Vacation Day 11 of 12
Now, the hard vacationing begins. Before, I flip over today's Wild Card, I noticed Mike K was the first to land a direct mailing in my mailbox, touting his endorsements by the firefighters and police officers. I'll be discussing Mike and the others the Monday before Election Day on Dick Haugen's KVNI morning show. Now, your latest Wild Card ... .
CBI: More March Madness
Selection Sunday, a phrase which now seems to merit capital letters, is 25 days away. And for those inevitably jilted outfits on March 16, we have some good news: No matter how bad your RPI, no matter that you've finished 2-8, no matter about that loss to Wofford, you may still be coveted — twice, even. To put it the way the NFL might: Are you ready for some (more) basketball? There's a new tournament on the scene: the 16-team College Basketball Invitational. And it could well involve a team like Washington. The fledgling CBI is being run by the Gazelle Group of New Jersey, whose Web site says it "creates, represents and consults across sports, entertainment and cultural activities." It put together the College Hoops Classic (the preseason Coaches Versus Cancer event climaxing in New York) and the CBE Classic in Kansas City won by UCLA.
Fashion Week has come and gone. Now to find out who the decoy ...
For me, the show is over for the season. Here are the main reasons. All of them are true. 1. Sweet P gets eliminated this week. 2. That means Christian is going to win. He’s the most talented designer of the season. He may be the most talented designer of all the seasons. 3. If he doesn’t win, then I don’t want to know about that. 4. I still have to think about Rami. Now that Ricky is gone, I can start disliking Rami. It won’t have the fervor of my Ricky antipathy, because Rami isn’t even the same ballpark of annoying. But Rami’s clothes -- while very wearable, sophisticated, and beautiful for ladies who want to feel sophisticated and beautiful -- are as interesting to me as the outcome of Make Me a Supermodel.
Demond Reed: Grief for yet another young life lost
Tony Ishmon, 39, the grandfather of Demond Reed, wept into the open casket at Shiloh Temple in Minneapolis on Monday night. When Ishmon broke down, he was ushered out of the sanctuary. Before the service, he said he was still shocked by his grandson's death. “It just doesn't seem real," he said. .
Committee upholds certification decision in Aberdeen election
Last Monday, the Democratic Election Committee announced that it would not be certifying Willie Cook or Kennedy Meaders for the citys April 1 election. A meeting was set aside on Wednesday if those candidates wanted to contest that ruling. Cook did. Meaders, who would have been a candidate for police chief, did not attend. Coy Flynn, committee chairman, opened the meeting and said, Were here to hear what Willie Cook has to say about us not certifying him. Cook asked why the committee did not certify him. He was not certified, the committee said, because he does not live in the Ward he qualified in, Ward 3. Committee member Bob Miller said pictures had been taken of the house he has in Ward 3 and that prior to that day, the pictures showed it to be vacant.
Valentine's Day 'petaways'
Valentine's Day is coming up, but it's not too late plan that romantic getaway you've been dreaming about—and there's no reason why Fido and Fluffy can't come along too. John Clifford of International Travel Management in San Diego, Calif., suggests checking out pet packages offered by some of the country's leading pet-friendly hotel chains if you don't have time to research a romantic hideaway in close proximity to where you live. “Chains such as Kimpton Hotels or W Hotels", specialize in a boutique hotel concept designed to pamper and cater to your every whim, and are renowned for their pet-friendly attitude. Often their pet packages are surprisingly affordable," says Clifford. .
