| PLAINFIELD: Library painting on loan for Chicago exhibit
A painting officials call "the finest and most noteworthy" in Plainfield Public Library's collection is on loan to the Art Institute of Chicago for an upcoming exhibit there. "Looking Over the Cliff," an 1882 watercolor by Winslow Homer, will be part of the "Watercolors by Winslow Homer: The Color of Light" exhibit, which runs from Feb. 16 to May 10, library officials said in a statement. The library's painting will be one of 130 watercolors, drawings and oil paintings featured in the exhibit. Under tight security, the painting left Plainfield earlier this week and arrived Wednesday in Chicago in the middle of a storm that delivered 15 inches of snow. Library Director Joseph Da Rold and the facility's Board of Trustees have been working with the exhibit curator since October 2006.

Luring clients and employees to shore
(FSB Magazine) Glendale, Wis. -- ShoreTrips' business is booming, so you'd think owners Julie and Barry Karp could relax a bit. The couple developed a niche - arranging land tours for Caribbean cruise ship travelers. While cruise vessels have been disgorging hordes of passengers into ports and onto buses and walking tours for decades, their operators faced increased competition from landlubbers when the Karps founded their firm in 2001. Since then, the Karps have located tour operators in scores of port cities and used them to deliver less costly and more intimate and original port experiences than the big ships offer. Clients come mostly through travel agents, who get commissions on any ShoreTrips tours they sell. The Karps put 75,000 travelers on their tours in 2006, and 100,000 last year.
Showing her true colours
Nine studio albums later she is still touring, most recently alongside artists including Debbie Harry, the Dresden Dolls, Rufus Wainwright and the Gossip, for the True Colours tour of the US, a human rights tour which she organised. A strong supporter of gay rights (her sister is a lesbian), Lauper will perform at the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardis Gras this year, as well as doing her own shows. There's also a new CD in the pipeline – her first collection of new music since 2003's Shine, which "never even made it out of the box", because it was released only in Japan. "I'm under the crunch to get it done," Lauper says of her new, as yet unnamed, CD. "I worked with people from all over the world, which kind of makes it a little more interesting, but harder to get everything together.
